Magic Leap’s mixed reality headset set to finally debut this summer

Magic Leap hosted a live stream demo on Wednesday for their startup project for a headset that has raised over $2 billion from investors such as Google, J.P Morgan, AT&T and Alibaba, to build and develop a mixed reality device. During this hosted session, the developers promised to finish this project that will make the world change the way they look at things to mirror things seen only in fantasy and sci-fi films so far.

In the demonstration, a digital stone Gollum like figure was shown while placed into the real world the same way Pokémon Go creatures would but, instead, it was something that was viewed by the users with their eyes rather than on a screen.

There was also a demonstration of how interaction has been made possible for users in, for example, the “dodge” function in which the Gollum was to throw a boulder at the user as this one simply held his or her hand at the figure in order to cause the boulder to crash and shatter all over the place and if not, the user should simply dodge the throw in order to get the boulder to crash at the wall.

Merit and marketing

The Magic Leap headset is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra X2 chip, which enhances the capabilities of basically altering the view of a determined environment by programming certain objects or subjects to pop up in someone’s vision of the real world.

This device does not only focus on the immersive visual experience, it focuses on a completely audiovisual interactivity providing an experience that even makes the sound generation as real as a conversation.

However there wasn’t much of a reveal on how the Magic Leap actually works, so the main direction on this piece of hardware as of right now is the speculation based on its supposed upcoming market position, and as of right now the main concern for this headset is the similarities that it shares with the Microsoft HoloLens

Despite being in a tight spot marketing-wise, the breakthrough of this headset has become clear due to the fact that it could represent several possibilities for every tech-related industry, whether it is gaming or strict business there is a world of possibilities that is opened once you mix 2D and the actual dimensions of reality.
