LG G5 released in MWC 2016: Price, Specs, Accessories and Availability details

With the release of the LG G5 in MWC 2016, there are a lot of you who might be searching for what LG has done with its flagship device. For specs, features and everything else you need to know about the premium Android smartphone, read on.

Design

The G5 has a full metal body. LG is calling the G5 a theme park in your pocket. The phone features a pull out bottom that makes sure of the fact that the device has its removable battery specs intact.

The top and side bezels are quite thin on the device and the lower bezel features the LG branding.

Dimensions wise, the LG G5 measures 149.4 x 73.9 x 7.7mm and weighs 159 g.

It will be available in Silver/Titan/Gold/Pink colors.

Specs and software

The LG G5 sports a 5.3 inches wide IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (~525 ppi pixel density) and 16M colors.

Underneath the hood, the phone is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 processor, coupled with 4GB of RAM at and 32GB of internal storage and Adreno 530 GPU. Built-in storage is expandable via microSD card up to 200GB. Due to the 820 processor, the device will also feature the full speed of the X12 modem.

Camera wise, the primary shooter, located at the rear, shoots at 16MP and packs 1/2″ sensor size, geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, panorama, HDR. The camera is said to have a 135 degrees field of view. The secondary ‘selfies’ camera, embed on the front, comes with an 8MP sensor.

To accommodate the HD 5.6-inch screen, LG has backed the device up with a removable 2,800mAh battery. You can slide a depleted battery with a new one in just a minute. The device features Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0.

The phablet will come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow straight out of the box, skinned under the LG Optimus UX 5.0.

Connectivity wise, the device features Wifi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, USB Type C, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2 along with support for LTE/3G/2G networks.

Other features

As speculated, LG has included the Always On feature on the device. It will take only 0.8% battery per hour and will adjust the brightness depending on the lighting.

LG has introduced a lot of accessories to go with the device, calling it the LG Friends. This includes a VR Headset and a 360° camera accessory.

The LG CAM+ has also made its debut, which is an addon with camera controls and an extended battery, that can also be used as a battery pack. The add-on has a dedicated shutter button along with a zoom wheel for both still pictures and video. It features an 1,100 mAh battery.

Another add-on is an audio module with B&O DAC. It is a 32-bit unit which is claimed to have high-fidelity sound output. The DAC can be combined with an in-ear headphones available from B&O, which has quite high-end specifications.

As we mentioned earlier, the LG Friends is a series of accessories that have been released by the company. Here is a brief roundup of each accessory.

First up is the 360-degree camera. This is an external camera which seems to connect to the G5. According to LG, it has two wide-angle lenses to achieve the 360 FOV. LG is cooperating with Google for this camera. Google will store 360CAM pictures at full resolution for free and also includes integration with StreetView and Maps.  It will be able to record via a 16MP sensor.

Next we have the VR headset. LG has said this headset to be completely different from the existing ones both in terms of looks and practicality. They have promised that the headset will be similar to wearing shades and are quite light at just 116 grams, which the company has claimed to be 1/3rd of the total weight of average weights of other headsets.

LG has also introduced the rolling bot. This bot is connected via WiFi and can be remote-controlled via phone.There’s an IR transmitter on the bot which will be able to control various devices.

A controller for drones has also been launched, in collaboration with the drone maker company, Parrot. It is still unclear though, whether  it only for the drones made by the firm.

All the add-ons will be controlled by the LG Friends Manager.

Pricing and Availability

LG has not shed much light onto this sector yet, though it did mention that the smartphone, along with all of its accessories, will start rolling out in April. No pricing info was remarked, though judging from former generations, the smartphone should set you back around $550 for the baseline variant.
