On Monday, the Santa Barbara International Film Festival organizers announced their choice for the 2017 Outstanding Performer of the Year Award: Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone for their work in the film ‘La La Land.’
The festival’s announcement comes as the Palm Springs International Film Festival also revealed it would honor ‘La La Land’ with its prestigious Vanguard Award on January next year.
Damien Chazelle’s ‘La La Land’ will premiere in the U.S. on December 9, following its world debut at the Venice Film Festival last summer.
The Santa Barbara International Film Festival will start on February 1, while Stone and Gosling will receive the award on February 3.
Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling star together for the third time in ‘La La Land’
The two protagonists of ‘La La Land’ are having a romance on screen together for the third time now. Emma Stone had starred alongside Ryan Gosling back in 2011 and 2013, on the films ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’ and ‘Gangster Squad’ respectively.
The young actress swung by The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this Monday to promote ‘La La Land.’ She talked about her experience and showed off the dance moves she learned from the movie.
Stone spoke to Ellen about her relationship with the ‘The Notebook’ star and the trust they had after starring as a couple in three movies now with Damien Chazelle’s ‘La La Land.’
“It makes it very easy when you know someone. To learn [to dance] with someone you don’t know must be terrifying. But with him, I was just sweating all over him and felt fine about it. I sweat a lot,” Stone said to Ellen.
Her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show wrapped up with a dance-off opposite Ellen herself, during a new game of the show called ‘Last Dance.’
‘La La Land’ plot and cast
‘La La Land’ is an upcoming romantic musical comedy that follows Mia (Emma Stone) and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) as two struggling artists who fall in love in Los Angeles.
The cast includes John Legend, Rosemarie DeWitt, J.K. Simmons and an ensemble cast of interpreters and dancers in an Impostor Pictures production. Damien Chazelle of ‘Whiplash’ fame wrote and directed the film.
‘La La Land’ premieres in theaters nationwide in the United States on December 9. The Palm Springs International Film Festival is going to honor the starring couple on January 2, while the juries at Santa Barbara will do the same on February 3.
