HMD has officially announced three Android smartphones were launching globally in Q2 2017. The Nokia 6, Nokia 5, and Nokia 3 will be available in the coming months along with a redesigned model of the iconic Nokia 3310.

The announcement at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is part of the Finnish giant’s strategy to capitalize on its old reputation to secure a position as a top player in the Android market.

The only thing missing from Nokia’s presentation on Sunday was a premium flagship smartphone capable of competing against the likes of Samsung, Apple, and Huawei. Those devices will reportedly arrive later this year.

Nokia 6 Specs and price

Nokia’s first smartphone under its partnership with HMD is launching worldwide this Q2. The same goes for the Nokia 5 and the Nokia 3, both of which are handsets previously unseen.

The Nokia 6 is coming out mostly with the same specs and design we already know from its widely successful release in China. It will feature an aluminum body available in four colors, and it has a 5.5-inch display with full HD resolutions (1920 x 1080).

Qualcomm provides a Snapdragon 430 processor, paired with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of expandable storage. The global launch version gets the same 16 MP rear camera with dual flash, but an enhanced 8 MP selfie camera with autofocus and a wide-angle lens.

To celebrate the event, HMD is offering an Arte Black edition with a glossy finish, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of storage for €299 or $315. The standard model will cost €229 or $242 approximately.

Nokia 5 is a premium option for the mid-range spectrum of the market

HMD’s second announcement of the day was the Nokia 5. As a mid-range device, it is quite impressive and attractive mainly due to its quality build and features.

The device has a smaller 5.2-inch screen, but its design features rounded corners instead of the sharp edges on the Nokia 6. It will be available in Matte Black, Silver, Tempered Blue, and Copper.

Nokia 5 models will come with the same processor as their big brothers, but only 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. The rear camera will have 13 MP while the front-facing one will have only 8 MP and a lens with a wider angle.

It debuts along all the products announced at the MWC, with a €189 price tag in Europe and roughly $199 in the U.S.

Nokia 3 brings quality and affordability for dirt cheap

The Nokia 3 is a true entry-level smartphone for this era, except HMD, goes one step further and still manages to ship it with a flagship design and some cool features.

For example, it has the same 8 MP wide-angle lens on the front and the rear, and the same memory configuration seen on the Nokia 5. The aluminum frame will also have a sleek finish available in four colors.

The display will still have a decent size at 5 inches, but the phone will carry a less powerful MediaTek 6737 quad-core processor. It will cost €139 or $149 approximately when it launches in the coming months.

All of the new models will ship with near-stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat, and they will support the fastest, automatic updates directly from Google. They will also be compatible with Google Assistant.

The Nokia 3310 is back: more durable with a new look

One last minute announcement was held back as a surprise to the public at the MWC: the relaunch of the Nokia 3310. With a fun, colorful look, the iconic feature phone is back with more battery life and some new tricks.

It can deliver 22 hours of talk time and up to a month of standby time, and now it has a 2 MP rear camera and a full-color QVGA display. The budget phone even has a microSD slot, and it runs a new version of Snake.

Available in yellow, red, matte gray, and the signature dark blue, the redesigned Nokia 3310 will cost €49 or $52 when it comes out alongside its smartphone brothers.
