Who is going to test the new YouTube Community tab?

On Tuesday, YouTube announced its YouTube Community product that will allow creators and subscribers to interact with each other. Conversations and even collaborations are now available between them through live videos, text, GIFs, images, and much more.

Google explained, via a post on YouTube’s Creator Blog, it had invited several creators to take part in the developing of the latest tab. Publishers wanted to let fan ideas and feedback shape the platform and inspire fresh features.

Initially, YouTube will only release the beta version of YouTube Community to some of the most famous content creators on the platform. They include John & Hank Green, AsapSCIENCE, The Game Theorists, Karmin, The Key of Awesome, The Kloons, Lilly Singh, Peter Hollens, Rosianna Halse Rojas, Sam Tsui, Threadbanger, and VSauce3.

How does YouTube Community work for creators?

Youtube’s new Community tab will introduce a timeline or feed feature to YouTube channels. Publishers can post announcements and invitations, images, live videos, animated GIFs and other media content.

They can make these posts while uploading their videos. Publishers using YouTube Community will find a new tab available in the YouTube app called Community where they can post all of the above.

So YouTube is essentially establishing its social network. Comments and messages are now dynamic conversations full of media content, and can be thumbed up or down. The idea is to allow creators to interact with their viewers without using other competing social platforms, like Twitter or Facebook to do so.

What can you do with the new community tab?

Meanwhile, viewers will see the updates in the Subscription Feed tab. They will be able to see the Subscription feed on their smartphones, and configure it to get notifications every time a creator makes a new post, instead of only receiving them when a new video gets uploaded.

YouTube subscribers can also talk with their favorite publishers in real time to give them ideas for upcoming content as well as collaborate. The Community tab will be ready in the coming months.
