Google for Jobs makes employment as easy as using Chrome

On Tuesday, Google announced the next step in the Google for Jobs initiative by integrating job-seeking functionalities directly into the browser searches. This new feature allows employers to index job postings and people to look for them and filter them out.

The announcement comes a month after the program was announced at the Google I/O, which only revealed a little of the extent of the platform. The tech giant has done similar integrations to the search engine to find clothing items that appear on ads.

The idea behind Google for Jobs is that the company turns into a facilitator channel of sorts to make job hunting far easier and seamless than it is right now, even with all the help the engine provides to us as users.

How to look for a job using Google Search

If you are unemployed or looking to get ahead in your career by taking the next big opportunity you find, then the first place to start looking is Google, as usual. However, you will notice your next search might show detailed results this time around.

Available only in English for United States users, Google the search engine now shows job postings with custom filters to make your transition experience from unemployed to part of the workforce in a simple and intuitive way.

For instance, if you enter a search query like “jobs near me” the results pages in Google will look like postings with relevant data about the company and the position. In some cases, the search engine might even show how far the job is from you if you commute and how long your shifts would be.

Category, Titles, Date Posted, Type of job and more tags are available to narrow down your hunt scope significantly. And because it is Google, you have the integrated option to set an alert for postings that catch your eye while browsing and receive notifications on your Gmail about updates on that position.

How to make a job posting show up in Google

If you are an employer or a company, you have two options to make the growing list of job postings showing up at Google: you can index your offers yourself, or you can just post them to a dedicated platform supported by Google for Jobs.

To integrate directly with Google, you need to publish job postings on your website and make sure those are indexable. Then, you need to modify the HTML of said publications to add structured data that makes it available in search results. If that sounds complicated, Google has an integration guide over at its support page.

The easiest method is simply publishing your job offers in one of the following platforms: Facebook, LinkedIn, CareerBuilder, Glassdoor, ZipRecruiter, Snagajob, Jibe, JazzHR, Monster, WayUp, Direct Employers, iCIMS, Madgex, America’s Job Exchange, Jora, Jobing, Jobs.net, Care.com, and others.

Chances are you have visited one of those sites when you were looking through postings. Google knows this, so it is collaborating with them in the Google for Jobs initiative by showing their offers right within results.
