Evenflo will voluntarily recall around 29,742 units of its Evolve 3-in-1 Combination Booster Seats sold in the United States and Canada. The company issued a statement on its official website saying it was a preemptive action, and that there were no reports of injured people because of a malfunction in the product.
Apparently, some kids can reach and push the harness adjustment button without the help of adults, and loosen it. Providing safe products for children is Evenflo’s designers, engineers, and testers number-one priority, so the company opted to recall the Evolve 3-in-1 seats.
Evenflo will recall all Evolve Booster Seats manufactured before February 9, 2016, with model numbers 34411700 (US), 34411741 (US), 34411700C (Canada). Several consumer feedback reviews showed concerns about the seat’s harnessed mode.
If kids can tamper the harness, they will not be adequately secured in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of getting injured or worse. The malfunction only occurs when using the seat in the harnessed mode. It does not affect the belt-positioning modes.
Evenflo will issue a repair kit
Just like they have done on previous occasions, Evenflo will provide onwards a free repair kit starting September 26.
The kit includes a harness adjustment switch assembly to replace the current one along with installation instructions. Owners will not have to return their child’s seat to retailers. They only need to visit www.evolve.evenflo.com or call our ParentLink Consumer Resource Center at 1-800-233-5921 in the US or 1-800-265-0749 in Canada.
People who want to continue using the seats while the repair kit arrives should opt for the belt mode which is completely safe. Not all children have been able to loosen the harness, but waiting for the kit is still the best option.
The company is working with the authorities
Evenflo is conducting its latest voluntary recall in coordination with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Transport Canada.
Evolve owners may contact Evenflo by calling 1-800-233-5921 or going to www.evolve.evenflo.com. They can also communicate with the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or www.safercar.gov.
Back in February, Evenflo voluntarily recalled three model numbers of its Advanced Transitions 3-in-1 Combination Seat. As with the Evolve, the company offered a remedy kit to prevent child accessing the seat’s adjustment mechanisms.
In both cases, consumers alerted Evenflo through complaints and reviews.
