Charmed will make it to TV one more time, with a reboot ordered by The CW. The three sisters with magical abilities once played by Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs, and Shannen Doherty will come back with new adventures in a revival of the series taking place in a New England Town in 1976. The show will have a different cast, but the premise will be similar to the original.

Even though the reboot is going to be a reimagining taking place in 1976, there are still some rumors regarding the possibility that this is a prequel to the original story.

What do the original actresses have to say?

So far, the revival has been taken with enthusiasm and positive comments from the original cast. On a tweet, Combs stated that they wished them well, showing good feeling towards the new cast.

On the other hand, Milano also tweeted “#Charmed fans! There are no fans like you. You’re the best of the best.”  Other members of the original cast haven’t made any comments yet, but their reaction is expected to be similar.

Charmed, originally produced by  Aaron Spelling, tells the story of three sisters with magical abilities who fight evil and protect innocents from beings like demons and warlocks.

Each witch possesses unique magical powers that when combined, form the Power of Three. It makes them the most powerful good witches in the world.

Their mother, who was a renown sorceress, died when they were young. However, they can summon her spirit and ask her for advice in emergencies.

The original series was broadcast for the first time by The WB on October 7, 1998, and the last episode aired on May 21, 2006. The series lasted eight seasons.

Charmed showed a good representation of feminism

The first seasons of charmed received favorable reviews from TV critics. Entertainment Weekly writer Ken Tucker referred to the series as Charlie’s Angels with an Ouija board, as he compared the show to rival productions like Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Alyssa Milano described the series as perfect post-feminist girl power, emphasizing the balance between action and emotion the show had. Vanessa Thorpe of The Guardian agreed with Milano’s description

Charmed still has many fans, and its reboot is likely to be successful. If so, it could trigger a series of remakes which could include Buffy.
