The acclaimed Chicago artist Chance the Rapper announced on his Twitter account earlier this Monday that he will hold a new music festival on September at his hometown featuring several other musicians.
The Magnificent Coloring Day will be the first music festival to take place at the U.S. Cellular Field on the south side of Chicago, home of the Chicago White Sox.
The baseball team will be in Cleveland on September 24, the day of the gathering which was pending ever since the release of his upcoming Magnificent Coloring World Tour dates. On the official list, Chicago’s date stated a puzzling “TBD” which at least gave hope of an event taking place in the hometown of the acclaimed hip-hop artist.
The unexpected Monday announcement comes with a full-fledged poster featuring a lineup of stellar performances by various artists that will take the stage at the U.S. Cellular Field.
Chance the Rapper will be joined by rappers like Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert and Tyler, the Creator.
Further acts include Alicia Keys, John Legend, and Skrillex, among other “special guests” who will color Chicago with their songs on September’s last Saturday.
A magnificent career
Born Chancellor Bennett, the son of a notorious Chicago civil servant, Chance the Rapper first broke into the hip-hop scene in 2011 with the release of his first mixtape “10 Day.”
After critical acclaim by some music news outlets and other media reports, he teamed up with the Los Angeles-based rapper Childish Gambino as his opening act during a tour the following year. However, it was not until the release of his second mixtape “Acid Rap” in 2013 when he truly gained notoriety in the mainstream hip-hop scene.
The iconic mixtape features tracks in collaboration with rappers like Action Bronson, Vic Mensa, and Childish Gambino; and was featured on several major outlets’ best albums of the year lists. Since then, Chance the Rapper has been prominently featured on other artists’ albums, collaborating with them either writing or rapping, often met with praise and success.
One of the latest projects in which Chance was involved was none other than Kanye West’s last album, the long-expected and critically acclaimed “The Life of Pablo.”
The hit songs “Ultralight Beam” and “Waves” are among the tracks that count with Chance’s verses and voice, in the album released on Valentine’s Day 2016.
Coloring Book and the Magnificent Coloring Day
Chance the Rapper’s latest mixtape “Coloring Book” was released back in May to nearly universal critical acclaim once again. The hip-hop artist subsequently announced that he would be touring around the world in his Magnificent Coloring World Tour.
The tour will take Chance all across America, stepping on Canada for a bit and then performing in several cities in Europe.
The 23-year-old will begin his journey on San Diego the 15th of September and will end with a show in London on November 22. The Magnificent Coloring Day will happen between September 21 and September 25 scheduled dates at Kansas City and Detroit respectively.
Tickets for the event sponsored by Bud Light will be available starting this Friday, July 29 on Chance the Rapper’s official website.
