The new shooter will release with a new high power zoom lens

Canon USA expanded its EOS family with the new EOS M5 digital camera. The company announced it on its official website on September 15, 2016. The M5 is a compact and portable camera that includes new stabilization technology.

Along with the EOS M5, Canon released the EF-M lens. According to the press release, the new high power zoom lens will allow people to exploit the EOS family’s zooming capabilities entirely. The accessory is compatible with all the cameras of the series.

Canon decided to launch the M5 and the lens as stand-alone products. However, they are meant to work together for maximum performance regarding stabilization, zoom, and picture/video quality shooting.

EOS M5 specifications

The M5 features a 24.2 Megapixels CMOS Sensor and an ISO range that goes from 100 to 25600. That means the camera can work properly regardless the illumination of the environment which makes it perfect for both indoor and outdoor photographers.

It supports high-speed shooting, 7.0 fps up to 9.0 fps with the AF lock, and it has a new DIGIC 7 image processor that allows the M5 to track moving subjects with ease. Even if the user is recording full HD MP4 content, the camera will run at 60 fps.

This technology adapts the camera’s internal and external lenses depending on the position of the subject before the processor transforms it into information.

In other words, the camera stabilizes the images before they are stored as pictures or video. So goodbye, blurry photos, and video. The M5 is the first EOS camera to introduce Canon’s Axis stabilization to video shooting. It supports any lens, but it works best with Canon IS stabilization lenses.

Canon equipped the EOS M5 with a high-resolution EVF, so what the users see at the moment of taking the picture is what they will get. Accordingly, the camera has a new Touch and Drag AF, and four customizable modes to manually adjust the settings on the go.

EOS M5 Bluetooth adapter

According to Canon’s press release, the new camera comes with a Bluetooth iii adapter, and it can connect to smartphones or tablets easily. Moreover, the article indicates the camera supports “remote control possibilities” which implies people will be able to use the EOS M5 from a distance with their smart gadgets.

The Canon EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Lens is supposed to introduce new zooming capabilities. It also supports the new stabilization feature and shake-correction.

The EOS M5 will support all of the lenses available for the EOS, EF, EF-Svii and Speedlite families. However, the press release does not mention anything about filters or any other accessory.

Canon’s EOS M5 price, release date, and compatibility

The Canon Online Store will release the EOS M5 in the United States in November 2016. Simultaneously, the camera will arrive on the shelves of authorized retailers in the North American country.

The body alone has a suggested cost of $979,99. If the customers want to throw in the EF-M 15-45mm/F3.5-6.3 IS STM zoom kit lens, the price would go up to $1,099,00. They can also get the M5 with the new EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens pack for $1,479,00.

The camera’s mobile app will be compatible with gadgets running Android 5.0 +. The list of iOS devices includes the iPhone 4S or newer versions, the iPad 3rd Gen or later, and the iPod Touch 5th generation or more recent models.

However, they will need Bluetooth 4 and the Camera Connect App Ver. 1.3.20 or above, and event then, Canon does not guarantee every single one of the items in the list will be able to run the mobile app.
