Canon Inc. (NASDAQ: much awaitedCAJ) unveiled the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV a DSLR ready for professional photos and videos alike. The much-awaited camera will hit the store shelves in September for $3,499.
The full-frame DSLR combines a 30.4-megapixel sensor and a 4K video. The camera has a full-frame CMOS sensor and a Digi 6+ processor, while the video has a capability of 23.98, 24, 25 and 30 fps at maximum resolution.
Other features are a 61-point autofocus, NFC, built-in digital lens optimizer, ISO range between 100 and 32,000 and Wi-Fi. As it stands, the flagship camera is a notable upgrade from the previous EOS 5D Mark III, one of the best DSLR in the market.
It’s worth noting that Mark III had an ISO range of 100 to 25,000. With top light sensitivity, the camera could shoot in the dark with no extra lights in the set. However, its natural range was up to 6,400. Beyond that mark, there would be a significant decrease in image quality.
The 5D Mark IV carries Canon’s trademark Dual Pixel CMOS AF
This feature is also present in 7D Mark ii and the newer 80D. The technology is a reinvention of video focusing: essentially, it’s a sensor that includes twice the number of pixels in an attempt to improve focusing.
There are 40.3 million photodiodes on the sensor, and when they are put to work “it’s like 20 million people tracking the focus with both eyes,” as Canon describes it. The result is a simplified and more successful way to follow subjects when shooting video.
On the still-image side, the continuous shooting is set at 7 fps, up from 6 that the Mark III had. Other noticeable upgrades are both CompactFlash and SD cards, as well as the inclusion of GPS, an advantage often requested by EOS users.
Canon also upgraded the weather resistance on the Mark IV, which is now immune to water and dust.
EOS 5D will hit the market early September for $3,499/£3,630/€4,900
Lens are not included with the model, but there are two promotions to include a lens in the kit, only in the U.S. stores. Early in September, an EF24-70mm f/4L lens comes with the camera for $4,399; and in late October the promotion includes an EF24-105mm f/4L IS II USM lens for $4,599.
In Europe, the mentioned lens will arrive late 2016 for £1,129/€1,450, and an EF16-35mm f/2.8L III USM will hit the shelves in October for £2,349/€3,000.
