Apple Watch rules the growing smartwatch market with 75% share

US – Apple Watch (NASDAQ: AAPL) deemed for 75% of smartwatch market sales globally. It has distinctly lifted the pole in smartwatch industry. Research firms believe that Apple is now the ruling the smartwatch makers worldwide. Strategy Analytics published on Wednesday morning that the global smartwatch market reached a total of 5.3 million units in the second quarter, up by more than 450% as compared to the second quarter of 2014.

“Predictions of (Apple CEO) Tim Cook’s first product flopping have been greatly exaggerated. While existing smartwatch vendors held their own and even grew modestly in some cases, the story in the second quarter was really all about Apple raising the tide for all,” Strategy Analytics director Cliff Raskind said in a blog post.

Why buy an Apple Watch?

Apple Watch is often oversimplified as an iPhone on your wrist. Almost everyone has deemed it or have accidentally referred to it as “your phone.” It’s not an unreasonable comparison. The square-shaped smartwatch is like a mini iPhone; it lets you read emails, summons Siri and make and receive phone calls from your wrist. The size is right too. But do you really need this Apple Watch? On the one hand, it’s been great to change your behavior. Reason being, too many times you instinctively have to run into another room to check the message or pick up the call.

Definitely you also want to know missing features in the watch. There are plenty of iPhone features that aren’t carried over the wrist. Apple Watch is not a full-fledged iPhone replacement. It makes calls, but it can’t add new contacts. It listens to dictated texts and sends them as an audio message or transcription, but it doesn’t have any sort of edit function.

Apple hasn’t mentioned anything about their smartwatch business. Though they said the Apple Watch is still very far from the original iPhone and plan to wait before any kind of declaration.

Moreover, the particular info comes in contrast with MarketWatch’s report from last month which was suggesting that Apple’s smartwatch sales figure have plunged by 90%.
