Jolie asked for full physical custody of her children
U.S. Calif – It is official: there’s trouble in Hollywood, the land of the pretty and rich. On Monday night, Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt after eleven years of relationship. They started going out in 2005 and married in 2014.
Jolie said there are “irreconcilable differences” with her husband, and the rumors did not wait much to fill in the details. Entertainment media, TMZ, said the reason was Brad Pitt’s behavior with the couple’s children.
The actress asked for full physical custody of the children with joint legal custody – both parents have the power to make decisions-, a matter many outlets found curious. In California, unless there is something severe going on, courts prefer joint.
It seems Jolie does not want the famous actor near her kids for extended periods of time, as she believes he has wrong them in some way.
Brad Pitt is in shock
Robert Offer, the attorney in charge of the case, says Jolie took the decision for the “health of the family,” but couldn’t give any details because the couple asked for all the details to remain undisclosed.
There are six children in the Pitt-Jolie family. The ones they adopted together are Pax Thien, born in 2003 in Vietnam, and Shiloh, born in 2006 in Namibia. Jolie gave birth to the twins Knox Léon and Viviene Marcheline in 2008.
Brangelina also takes care of a son and a daughter whom Jolie adopted before the relationship: Maddox Chivan, whom she adopted in Cambodia in 2001, and Zahara Marley, born in 2005 in Ethiopia.
Jolie-Pitt indicated she wanted miscellaneous jewelry and other personal effects in the divorce, including her earnings from and after the date of separations and other separate properties. Brad Pitt issued a statement to People magazine saying he was in shock.
“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids,” he said.
It is not the first marriage wreck for neither actors. Pitt was married to Friend’s star Jennifer Aniston by the time he started his relationship with the sexy Ms. Smith, while Jolie had already promised eternal happiness to artist Billy Bob Thornton and actor Jonny Lee Miller.
Why are they so important?
Their influence as a celebrity couple is so high that when the news surfaced, the hashtag #Brangelina quickly became a top trend on Twitter, even superseding President Obama’s speech at the UN. Maybe it is not just because of their acting career, but their overall contribution to the world.
Angelina began working for the United Nations in 2000 as a good-will ambassador. She has gone to several countries in conflict, including Iraq, Jordan, Myanmar, and Syria. Earlier this month, the accomplished actress visited the Azraq camp in Jordan, home to more than 37,000 Syrian refugees, according to UN data.
Mr. Pitt has a lighter political career, but he is the co-founder of nongovernmental organization Not on Our Watch, devoted to preventing genocide. He is also the founder of Make It Right, a non-lucrative group that builds homes and other structures for people in need.
They have also raised over $24 million dollars for charity solely by selling photos of their babies.
