U.S. – ABC’s Marvel’s Ghost Rider movies starring actor Nicolas Cage were not well received. Even so, the demon-hunter will make a return, only this time to the small screen. Ghost Rider will join the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s season four.
“They say when the Rider burns you, he burns your soul,” narrates a voice in the third teaser the new rider, Robbie –Roberto- Reyes, a younger version of Johnny Blaze. Gabriel Luna (Matador, True Detective) will be the new demon biker.
Reyes, from Los Angeles, California, is ´possessed by the spirit of a mass murderer, not the Spirit of Vengeance. On the comic books, Eli Morrow – the serial killer – dismembered at least 37 people in magic rituals before he died. He lived in Reyes’ apartment.
Also, instead of a motorcycle, this new version rides a black ’68 Dodge Charger. However, his powers – and preference for the chains as weapon – are similar to those of the Ghost Rider.
More characters are coming to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
In the series, the character appears to be on a rampage to stop evil with his demonic magic. The subplot will fit right into season’s four storyline, as the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D are on a mission to stop all enhanced humans who have gone amok.
In the light of the Sokovia Accords (from Captain America: Civil War), S.H.I.E.L.D. goes legit. When the show returns, there is going to be a new director in the agency and he will send Agent Coulson and his team to track down inhumans.
Because the events of the last two Marvel movies changed the global awareness of people with powers, now there’s a significant political pressure inside the agency to fulfill the mission they have always had: contain super-disasters, protect the people, and track enhanced humans.
It only spells trouble for Daisy, AKA Quake (Chloe Bennet)
Season 3 ended with a cliffhanger. In the last episode, Quake dressed in leather and put on eyeshadow to take over her new rogue identity.
The events of the finale made it clear the former computer hacker had grown distant from his old teammates. Now, new details are revealing she is not the only one to dress in villainy black.
Daisy will start season 4 back as a troubled inhuman, and, as the teaser tells, she will be a major stepping stone in ghost Rider’s mission. Before –inevitably- returning to the team, she has to face a mystical rampage.
The series returns on Thursday, Sept. 20. Marvel fans are also looking for the premiere of Netflix’s Luke Cage on Sept. 30.
