Acer presented the Predator Triton 700 at the next@acer global conference in New York on Thursday. The ultrathin gaming notebook will come with next-generation Intel chips, NVIDIA GTX 10-series graphics cards, and it will be available for $2,999 in August.
The slim notebook was revealed alongside the more affordable Predator Helios 300 gaming laptop, new Switch 2-in-1 models, Aspire notebooks, and PCs packing the latest Ryzen technology by AMD at the event.
Acer’s Predator Triton 700 is set to compete against Razer’s Blade in the narrow market of thin yet powerful gaming laptops. Other products in the Predator lineup contend with MSI and Alienware, companies that tend to focus on performance over form factors.
Acer Predator Triton 700: Specs and design
The latest gaming notebook by Acer sports a brand new design with a few remarkable choices. At first glance, of course, the first thing that catches people’s eye is the slim profile of the Triton 700, which sits at just 0.74 inches or 18.9 mm.
It is not as thin as the Razer Blade or the new MacBook Pro, but it is still quite an achievement to pack so much power in such a frame. Made of aluminum, the laptop weighs just 2.6 kg or 5.7 lbs.
The Predator Triton 700 has a 15.6-inch full HD IPS display with support for NVIDIA G-SYNC and PredatorSense software for gaming. The signature Predator logo is on the top cover of the device.
A keyboard arrangement in Acer’s new laptop has sparked some controversy, with some saying it is convenient and others complaining about the unique placing decision.
The backlit mechanical keyboard sits on the lower edge of the device while the touchpad is above. The touchpad, which is a Corning Gorilla Glass plate, is transparent to let gamers look at the Aeroblade 3D fans and cooling system underneath.
Acer’s Predator Triton 700 will most likely come with either an Intel Core i5-7300HQ or a Core i7-7700HQ, although the company has yet to confirm. NVIDIA will provide a yet unspecified GPU from its GeForce GTX 10-series.
The gaming laptop will have a memory configuration that supports up to 32 GB of DDR4 DRAM and 512 GB of storage. It will also have one Thunderbolt 3 and DisplayPort connector, one HDMI port, two USB 3.0 slots and one USB 2.0.
There is also an Ethernet port for direct connections and Killer DoubleShot Pro support for network configurations. Either wired or wireless, the feature enhances connection speeds and performance.
Acer Predator Triton 700: Price and availability
Starting at $2,999, the Acer Predator Triton 700 will be available in North America this August. The company will most likely offer different configurations of the gaming laptop given that it did not reveal its precise processing specs.
In Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, Acer will sell the notebook starting at €3,399 that same month.
