Over the weekend, GFXBench published a list of specifications for the upcoming Google Pixel XL 2. While it doesn’t include information like price or expected release date, it does highlight performance details and some features.
Last month, the company’s executives revealed some of the new technology we could see in the upcoming Pixel, and there’s a chance it will run the first version of Android O.
Being Google’s flagship, tech experts suggest many of the announcements from the May event will debut first on the Pixel lineup’s second generation. Google Lens and enhanced Photos and Assistant applications figure on that list.
The Google Pixel XL 2 is going to have a big screen and almost no bezel
We don’t know if both Google Pixel models will follow the industry trend of getting rid of bezels in the front, but that certainly seems to be the case on the XL variant.
GFXBench data shows the Pixel XL 2 has a 5.6-inch, QHD display with 2560 x 1312 resolutions. That is the same resolution used by the recently announced Essential Phone.
Screen details of the upcoming handset are what have caught people’s attention the most since it is rumored to be cutting the top and bottom bezels yet it packs the same resolutions and 18:9 aspect ratio of the LG G6 and Galaxy S8 in a smaller display.
Performance-wise, the Google Pixel XL 2 will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, which comes paired with an Adreno 540 GPU to handle graphics. The tested device had 4 GB and 128 of storage, the same configurations available for current-generation phones.
Other features highlighted by Benchmark Test results show the upcoming Pixel XL 2 will pack a 12 MP rear camera, capable of snapping 4160 x 3120 pictures and shooting UHD 4K video.
HDR photos, autofocus, touch focus, LED flash, and face detection are also supported, the latter of which suggest there might be an unlocking mechanism similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S8 (hopefully safer).
The front camera is just 7 MP, but enough to match the video capabilities of the main one and to take pics with 3840 x 2160 resolutions. Google’s next flagship will have a complete set of sensors as expected and support for only one SIM card.
Aside from these specifications, GFXBench’s test unit ran on Android 7.1.1, but the models coming out later this year (September or October) are expected to be the first ones to ship with Android O out of the box.
