Reportedly, Lenovo and Motorola will unveil the new Motorola Moto M during an event in Guangzhou, China, next month. Several leaks have depicted and showcased the purported specifications and features of the upcoming handset.
Hidden behind the ‘Kung Fu’ codename and serial number XT1662, the Moto M is the latest smartphone of Lenovo’s Motorola Mobility division. In January 2014, Lenovo agreed to acquire Motorola from Google as a way to expand its market in the United States.
In October 2014, it was a done deal for $2.91 billion in cash and stock. In January 2015, Motorola re-launched its product line in China In January 2015. Motorola released the second generation Moto X, the Moto G LTE and the Moto X Pro.
In August 2015, Lenovo merged its existing smartphone division with Motorola. The Motorola division is now responsible for both the Moto and Vibe product lines.
Moto M is moving into previously-unexplored ground for Lenovo and Motorola
According to the leaked images, Lenovo’s upcoming Moto M will be the Motorola first to sport a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. Additionally, its unibody frame places the Moto M in the mid-end market of current generation handsets.
Other specs include a 5.5-inch 1080p display with Gorilla Glass 4 protection, a MediaTek Helio P10 SoC processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 3,000 mAh battery. The device features a primary camera of 16 megapixels and a selfie snapper with an 8-megapixel sensor.
Motorola recently released a list of smartphones that will get Android 7.0 Nougat. Since the Moto M is missing, it should natively run Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The phone should come in Silver and Gold color options. Lenovo also has plans for a Moto M Plus.
Lenovo will unveil the Moto M alongside the Lenovo P2
In addition to the Moto M, the two companies will also showcase the Lenovo P2 at the November 8 event. Information regarding the official release date or pricing for both handsets is currently unknown.
Showcased during the IFA 2016 in September, the P2 features a 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of up to 1,080 x 1,920 pixels. Inside, the Lenovo P2 comes equipped with an eight-core Snapdragon 625 CPU.
Depending on the region it will have a different default storage and RAM size. The European model will champion 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, while the Chinese variant will get 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
