2016 PlayStation Experience: Highlights and Trailers

The 2016 PlayStation Experience is now over, and fans got treated to several new games and announcements at the Anaheim Convention Center in California this past weekend. Activision, Capcom, and Sony Interactive Entertainment were among the developers to surprise the gaming community the most.

The two-day event featured the signature unveiling keynote headed by developers from different studios. This year’s edition lasted two hours and showcased 40 titles coming to the PlayStation 4 console.

Without further ado, here are the PSX most anticipated game announcements and trailers.

The PlayStation Experience 2016 conference is often the main event during the year for PlayStation

‘Uncharted: The Lost Legacy’ brings back Chloe Frazer

Naughty Dog kicked off the PlayStation Experience with an amazing trailer for ‘Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.’ The new title is a standalone expansion to ‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.’

The cinematic trailer features Chloe Frazer in a ‘Tomb Raider’ style of mission quest for a unique artifact. The favorite fan character will join Nadine Ross in the Indian mountains to look for the coveted object. ‘The Lost Legacy’ apparently won’t feature Nathan Drake.

The developers did not say when the DLC would launch, but fans can safely expect ‘Uncharted: The Lost Legacy’ to hit their PS4s sometime next year.

‘The Last of Us Part II’ is happening in 2018

Naughty Dog confirmed what most of the gaming community already knew: ‘The Last of Us Part II’ is in the works. The studio closed the keynote with a 4-minute trailer featuring Ellie and Joel ready to set on a new journey five years later.

This time around, Ellie will take a more prominent role as the main playable character in the game. Now 19, she vows in the trailer to “find and kill every last one of them.”

No release date was announced since the game is still in its early stages, but some industry experts have pinpointed the launch of ‘The Last of Us Part II’ for 2018.

‘Marvel vs. Capcom 4’ is now ‘Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite’, coming late 2017

Capcom took the stage on Saturday afternoon to confirm earlier rumors about the ‘Marvel vs. Capcom’ franchise. The series will get a new title in ‘Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite’ when it launches late next year.

The latest installment of the beloved video game saga gets its name from the addition of Marvel’s Infinity Stones to the in-game battle mechanics. Players will amass the power of the super gems to get new abilities and perform unique combos in two-on-two battles.

For now, the characters confirmed for ‘Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite’ are the ones featured in the trailer: Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Mega Man, and Ryu. A glimpse of an unknown enemy at the end of the video hinted at Thanos showing up on the roster as well.

‘The Last Guardian’ got one last trailer before launch

The much-awaited game ‘The Last Guardian’ will finally release on December 6 after nearly a decade in development hell.

The 2016 PSX proved to be the perfect opportunity to showcase some last-minute footage of the title ahead of its official launch this next Tuesday.

‘The Dawning’ will arrive on ‘Destiny: Rise of Iron’ this December

Activision announced the holiday event ‘The Dawning’ for ‘Destiny: Rise of Iron’ was coming next this December 13.

The themed event will bring some Christmas spirit to the world of Guardians with the comeback of the Sparrow Racing League. Players can compete in new tracks using new sparrow ships in the upcoming ‘Destiny’ update.

‘Horizon: Zero Dawn’ still looks awesome

The retro-futuristic universe of ‘Horizon: Zero Dawn’ continues to amaze. Robot dinosaurs and primitive creatures roam the land in this game as you seek to uncover the mysterious secrets lying underneath.

Aloy, the main character of the match, explores the open world of ‘Horizon’ with her trusty bow and arrow as she engages in a quest to discover its origins. ‘Horizon: Zero Dawn’ launches on February 28, 2017.

Crash Bandicoot is back in the remastered ‘N Sane Trilogy.’

The classic platformer is back and looking better than ever. ‘Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy’ will compile the original PlayStation games of the 90s into an all-new adventure for PS4.

‘Crash Bandicoot,’ ‘Crash Bandicoot: Cortex Strikes Back,’ and ‘Crash Bandicoot: Warped’ will be available in next-gen graphics in 2017 on the PlayStation 4.

PSX had many, many more game announcements

The 2016 PlayStation Experience featured some more notable trailers and game reveals. Among the most surprising were ‘Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom,’ ‘Strife,’ ‘Knack 2,’ ‘Persona 5,’ ‘Nioh,’ ‘Nex Machina,’ ‘Nier Automata,’ and ‘Let it Die.’
