Sarah Jessica Parker attended the New York premiere of her upcoming HBO comedy ‘Divorce’ on Tuesday night. The former ‘Sex and the City’ star reunited with some of the cast members of the iconic series, as well as her co-star in the new show Thomas Haden Church.

The premiere of ‘Divorce’ marks the return of the Ohio actress to the small screen in a prominent role ever since the finale of ‘Sex and the City’ in 2004. Parker had a minor role in the musical series ‘Glee’ from 2012 to 2013.

‘Divorce’ is the latest TV show to debut on HBO following the premiere of the sci-fi series ‘Westworld’ last Sunday. ‘Divorce’ will air on the 10 pm ET time slot this October 9, and it will be followed by the first episode of ‘Insecure,’ another new comedy making the rounds on the cable channel.

Divorce’ is a dark comedy exploring a failed marriage

‘Divorce’ stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church as two former soulmates in the process of getting divorced. The process, however, is long and drawn for Frances (Parker) and Robert (Haden Church), who will explore the theme in a ‘dark’ yet comedic tone on HBO.

The show will focus on Parker’s character Frances and her perspective on the whole ordeal. Although the series remains a comedy at its core, ‘Divorce’ will touch very real themes like custody of children, financial settlements, and couple’s therapy.

The half-hour show will also star several other figures in comedy and Hollywood as characters in recurring roles. Molly Shannon of former ‘Saturday Night Live’ fame will play a comedic-relief type of character and a friend of Frances. Other stars who are featured in ‘Divorce’ include Talia Balsam and Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy Letts.

Sarah Jessica Parker’s husband helped her prepare for the role

The 51-year-old Sarah Jessica Parker has been happily married to the ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ actor Matthew Broderick since 1997. They showed up on the red carpet of the show’s premiere on Tuesday night, looking as happy as ever.

The actor gave some insight to Vanity Fair on how he helped his wife prepare and rehearse for the role of Frances, even though they have three children together and have been married for nearly two decades.

“On the first script, we did discuss whether it was good for her, and it was. Everyone will be reminded what a terrific actor she is,” said Broderick. “She can be both serious and funny at the drop of a pin, and people will get to see that in the show. She’s amazing,” he added.

The first season of ‘Divorce’ will run for seven episodes, beginning with the ‘Pilot’ premiere on HBO this Sunday, October 9 at 10 pm ET.
