Design
Both the Moto X Play and Moto G follow the standard design scheme that were used in former installments of the latter. However, dimensionally, these two devices are different, as the Moto X measures 148X75X10.9 mm, whereas, the Moto G measures 142X72X11.6 mm.
Furthermore, the Moto X Play’s weight is 169g, whereas the Moto G weighs 155g.
There is also a difference in the build quality of the two devices, the Moto X features a metal frame, while the Moto G comes with a plastic frame. However, both devices pack a plastic covering at the rear.
Display
The Moto X Play sports a 5.5-inch wide display with a resolution of 1920X1080 pixels and a pixel density of 403 ppi, whereas the Moto G rocks a 5-inch panel that boasts a 1280X720 pixel resolution and 294ppi.
Camera
A 21MP rear camera and a 5MP front shooter have been incorporated into the Moto X Play. On the other side of the fence, the Moto G supports a 13MP rear and 5MP for selfies. The aperture of both the cameras is f/2.0.
Specs
The Moto X Play is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 615 chipset, clocked at 1.7 GHz and 2GB of RAM, while the Moto G houses a quad-core Snapdragon 410 chipset, clocked at 1.4GHz, coupled with 2GB of RAM. The Moto G also comes in a 1GB RAM variant that is cheaper than the 2GB one.
Battery
When it comes to battery performance, the Moto X Play is backed by 3,630 mAh, whereas 2,470mAh run the juice on the Moto G.
Moto G’s battery might seem less on paper, though it is adequate enough for the spec sheet at hand. Both smartphones feature solid batteries for the specifications that they come with.

This comparison goes without a doubt in favor of the Moto X Play. In every sector, right from design, display, specs, camera and battery, Moto X Play has always stood as a clear winner.
However, considering the difference in the prices of the two devices, the Moto G is a good option for the people who are looking for a budget friendly device.
Though, for those who are not on an extremely tight budget, the Moto X Play is irrefutably the place to go.
