Released in April, Lenovo aims its Lenovo Vibe K5 will compete with mid-end and even higher-end rivals. Its relatively low price should help Lenovo’s new low-end smartphone to fight them on equal terms.

Fresh out Lenovo’s Motorola Mobility division, the Vibe K5 will get the company of the upcoming Motorola Moto M and Lenovo P2. The handsets are the latest iterations of the three current smartphone brands of Lenovo.

For those wondering why Motorola is making Lenovo phones, they have to remember that Lenovo bought Motorola from Google for $2.91 billion in 2014. Lenovo then merged its existing smartphone division with Motorola in 2015.

Motorola is now responsible for all product lines, including its classic Moto brand as well as Lenovo’s Vibe and Lenovo. Since Lenovo is Motorola’s parent company, the responsibility comes at a cost. In January, Lenovo announced it would downplay the Motorola name and replace it with the Moto, Vibe, and Lenovo brands.

The Vibe K5 is the newest in Lenovo’s popular low-cost K-series

Let’s begin with the pros and cons. In addition to being the more affordable variant of the Vibe K5 Plus, its camera and battery life are highlights. However, the Vibe K5 has a slower processor and lower resolution screen.

The Lenovo Vibe K5 features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 415 SoC instead of the Snapdragon 616 in the Vibe K5 Plus. The screen resolution is a step-down, too. It offers 720p instead of 1080p. Aside from these differences, both models are almost the same.

Lenovo’s low-end smartphone still has 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and microSD card support. On either SIM, Vibe K5 owners get 4G support, BGN wireless Wi-Fi capability, and Bluetooth 4.1.

The new Vibe K5 also looks identical to the Vibe K5 Plus

Other features include a rear camera with 13 megapixels, a front camera with 5 megapixels, a 2750mAh battery, and Android 5.1.1 paired with Lenovo’s VibeUI custom skin. The usual Micro-USB and 3.5mm ports are also present.

With the same style as the Vibe K5 Plus, it doesn’t look like a low-end smartphone. The all-plastic Vibe K5 also comes in the same three colors: silver, gold, and gray. Unlike many devices in its same price segment, the Vibe K5 sports stereo speakers.

Available since last April, the Lenovo Vibe K5 has an incredibly low price at just $155. Meanwhile, the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus has a $188 price tag.
